Area Officer Election

Leadership looks different for everyone. In this organization, willingness to serve other can be found though many opportunities. The information found on this page will assist FFA members and their advisors in discovering if serving as an Area FFA officer is a fit for you. Our area has a committee of ag teachers as well as many former officers that are ready nd willing to answer any questions you might have after you have read the information found here.

 Expectations for Area Officers:

Area Officer Candidates should:

  • Candidates must be in the 11th grade (serving during their 12th grade year) and hold the Chapter FFA degree-Verification of this must be provided by the local chapter advisor.
  •  Submit name by the appropriate deadline.
  • Be eligible according to the No Pass, No Play Rule.
  •  Should remain publicly neutral on any political or social issue during their time as an area officer.
  • Read and understand the officer pledge, expectations, and information before submitting the application.

The Area I FFA Association will pay for:

  •  Area officer FFA jacket
  • Area officer travel shirt(s) - (Officers should expect to wear travel shirts, khakis, closed-toed shoes, belt with AO buckle when not in OD representing Area I FFA Association.)
  • Up to $50 per workshop taught by the Area and State Officer for Area I Leadership Conference and Greenhand Leadership Conference expenses.  Receipts must be turned in at post-conference meeting for reimbursement.
  • Expenses of taking the area officers to the state leadership conference. A check will be sent to the area president’s advisor in advance for lodging and $7.00 a meal to cover the expenses.  Please submit a budget of proposed expenses to the executive committee.
  • At the time of election at the area convention each area officer will receive an "officer buckle" which is to be worn for the year and then passed to the next year’s officers.  Care and respect should be taken to preserve the integrity of this buckle.  It must be returned in the same condition at the end of the officer's year of service.  
  • Basic expenses to the National FFA Convention to serve as voting delegates.  Please submit a budget of expenses for approval prior to.  Each officer attending the National Convention must submit a deposit for the amount of expense in the case of a flight reservation.  The officer will receive the deposit back upon return from the National Convention, after fulfilling the duties required of them at the convention.

Advisors of the Area I FFA President and First Vice-president will be responsible for:

  •  Transporting and assisting the area officers at the state leadership conference.
  • Conducting and supervising the Area Leadership Conference and Area Greenhand Leadership Conference.
  • Supervising and managing the delegate floor and FFA registration during all sessions of the state FFA convention.
  • Organizing and transporting officers serving as delegates to the National FFA Convention.
  • Any other area officer activity.

Advisors of other area officers should be in attendance and able to assist the President and First-Vice President advisors with these activities. Please discuss these commitments with your potential candidate, their parents and your administration before the election process begins.

 

All Area I FFA Officers MUST attend in its entirety:

  •  Area I FFA Leadership Conference
  • State FFA Leadership Conference
  • Area Greenhand Leadership Conference
  • Area I FFA LDE and CDE Contests
  • Area I FFA Convention (both years)
  • State FFA Convention
  • National FFA Convention as a Texas Delegate.   This is dependent upon the STATE allocation of voting delegates per area; the top ranking officers will be required to attend the National FFA Convention as a voting delegate representing Texas FFA.  (Normally the top four highest ranking officers)
  •  Planning sessions, organizational meetings, conference calls, pre-event preparation or any functions deemed appropriate for the fulfillment of the office.

Failure to attend any one of the above except for emergencies or medical reasons will result in relinquishing their office.  A financial reimbursement to Area 1 FFA will be the responsibility of the student and/or the FFA chapter, should they not completely fulfill their duties as an Area 1 FFA officer.
